Venn circles and Carroll grids sort the same information two different ways — and both exams and 11+ papers use each. This lesson pins down the overlap, the forgotten 'neither' region, and the count-check habit.
Each circle is a rule. The overlap holds items obeying BOTH; outside holds items obeying neither.
Rows: even / not even. Columns: multiple of 3 / not. Every item lands in exactly one box.

Sort 1–10 into the Venn above. Which numbers are in the overlap, and which are outside both circles?
The classic! 1, 5 and 7 fit neither rule — they go OUTSIDE the circles, not nowhere. Count all items at the end.
Wrong! The overlap means BOTH rules true at once. 4 is even but not a multiple of 3 — it stays in the Even-only region.
One box each! Every item belongs in exactly one of the four boxes — if 6 appears twice, a rule was misread.
