When surfaces rub, friction resists movement and can produce heat. Rough surfaces = more friction; smooth = less.
Moving through air or water is slowed by resistance (drag). Parachutes use big air resistance to fall slowly.
Why does a parachute make you fall slowly?
Not because of weight! Without air resistance, all objects fall at the same rate. A feather falls slowly because of AIR RESISTANCE, not because it’s light.
We need it! Friction lets us walk, grip and stop. Without it, everything would slide — brakes and shoe grips rely on friction.
Only some! Magnets attract iron, steel and nickel — not aluminium, copper or gold. Not all metals are magnetic.
