Vertically Opposite Angles

Two crossing lines create four angles, and knowing just one reveals the rest: opposites are equal, neighbours make 180°. This lesson also clears up what 'vertically' actually means.

Know 50°? Opposite is 50°; the other pair are 180 − 50 = 130° each.

💡 Key Idea‘Vertically’ here means sharing a vertex (the crossing point) — nothing to do with up-and-down.

Two lines cross. One angle is 74°. Find the other three.

Watch Out! Common Mistakes

Calling neighbours equal.
74° next to 74° ✕

Wrong pair! Only opposite angles are equal. Neighbours total 180°: 74° and 106°.

Thinking ‘vertical’ means upright.

Naming trap! Vertically opposite = sharing a vertex. The rule works whatever way the X is tilted.
